Have you ever wonder why children in China collect red envelopes full with money at Chinese New Year? Red is the colour of luck in China, signifying joy, prosperity and success and, during the New Year, can be seen in fiery, bold shades everywhere you look. Red lanterns symbolising reunion and harmony are a popular welcome sign, red firecrackers make a favourable (and ear-splitting) start to the New Year and a red front door means both luck and happiness.
If you need a touch of luck, you could paint your own front door a rich shade of scarlet or brighten up the corridor with juicy cherry tones. You just never know what good fortune it might bring…
